Job Description
Provide administrative support and coordinate university, student, or special programs, activities, or services; supervise support staff. Assist in budget preparation, monitor expenses and evaluate budget variances. Prepare financial reports. Hire, train, direct, supervise and evaluate performance of student assistants, program staff, volunteers, and contractual employees hired for special events. Determine staffing needs. Design and prepare promotional material for programs/events. Act as a liaison for the program or activity with local media, outside groups, University staff, and the community. Manage various supply, equipment, and building operations; write specifications, negotiate contracts; operate and maintain equipment. Data and records will be maintained to document financial, planning, correspondence and other information necessary to reflect program activities.

Position Summary:

The Vanderbilt University Student Recreation Center (SRC) opened the current facility in January 1990. The 145,000 square foot facility serves Vanderbilt students, faculty, and staff, as well as the surrounding community. The SRC features an indoor track, weight and cardio room, 3 indoor basketball courts and one outdoor court, racquetball and squash courts, a group fitness/aerobics room, a climbing wall and a large natatorium. The natatorium features a 36m X 25yd. multi-purpose pool ranging from 3.5ft-10ft. deep. The pool temperature is kept at 81-83 degrees F. The pool is approximately 480,000 gallons of water. The Activities Coordinator Position of Aquatics and Youth Programs is responsible for assisting with the administration, program development, fiscal oversight, and overall leadership of programs such as Aquatics, The Vanderbilt Swim School, CampVandy, and Special Event Programming for students and Vanderbilt community.


Requirements
Minimum Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Parks and Recreation Management, Sports Management, Physical Education, or equivalent. Master's degree preferred in related field

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Minimum of 1 yr. experience working in a supervisory role
  • Possess a minimum of 2 yrs. experience working in aquatics (ie. Lifeguarding, coaching, teaching swim lessons)
  • Possess a working knowledge of how to run a swim lessons program with experience in teaching/and or running swim lessons
  • Must be proficient in swimming and safety skills; must pass a water skills test
  • Experience in program development, fiscal management, and staff development preferred
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and relate to youth, parents, program staff, and regular pool and facility patrons which includes people of all ages
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt easily to changes that occur on short notice
  • Preferable working knowledge of pool chemicals and operations
  • Current Lifeguard and CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Current Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire

Key Functions and Expected Performances:

  • Assist with the supervision of lifeguards, swim instructors, and volunteer staff for special events.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff within Aquatics and Youth Programs.
  • Ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Assist with providing ongoing training for lifeguards as well as training swim instructors for The Vanderbilt Swim School.
  • Provide data and reports on assigned programs, answer emails and phone calls regarding the Vanderbilt Swim School, take registrations, maintain detailed records of participant, and provide on-deck supervision of the Vanderbilt Swim School.
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitoring expenses, evaluating budget variances, determining staffing needs, and designing and preparing promotional material for programs and events.
  • Open the pool at 5:30am MWF if necessary to supervise morning pool operations.
  • Assist with facility management and weekend duties when necessary.
  • Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when necessary
  • Assist with CampVandy during both Summer and Holiday Camps
  • Assist with the Sport Club program
  • Assist with facility reservations
  • Assist with facility management and weekend duties when necessary
  • Responsible for daily cleaning and assist with the overall maintenance of pool
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

Shift hours may vary; Monday thru Friday. Must be flexible to work weekends and/or late evenings as needed.

Salary ranges from $26,062(min) - $36,441(mid) - $46,820(max) annually; dependent upon years of education and experience.

Ticket Sales Internship - Cornbelters

JOB TITLE: Ticket Sales Representative Internship (SPRING 2010)

The Normal CornBelters are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to contribute to the overall ticket sales effort of a professional sports organization.
This is an unpaid position, and the individual selected must require an internship for college credit. As a member of the CornBelters Ticket Sales Department, this individual will primarily focus on the sale of all ticket packages (including full season seats, partial season seats and various group outings) via telephone and appointment. However, this individual will not be limited in performing other duties as assigned.


DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Providing unwavering customer service to clients
  • Assisting with numerous in-season, and off-season, sales events
  • Maintaining customer database and facilitating communication of marketing efforts
