Westin/Starwood Internship

Summer Intern Program - Spring 2011 Semester

Starwood offers summer opportunities to foster students' professional development, understanding of hotel operations and career planning for placement after graduation. Starwood provides each summer intern with experiences comparable to entry-level, full-time professionals in the field of hospitality. Students are given networking opportunities, project experience and meaningful hands-on experience as they develop their guest service and functional skills in rooms, food and beverage, sales, finance, human resources, revenue management or six sigma. The individual career objectives of each student are utilized to create a final project.

First, second and third year students enrolled in hospitality programs who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the hospitality industry through their academic performance and practical experience are invited to apply for summer internship opportunities in the spring. Our University, an NCAA Division I Institution, is seeking two Graduate Assistants for the Athletics Marketing Department. This 12-month position includes a tuition waiver and a stipend of $1,200 per month. Graduate assistant is responsible for assisting in all facets of athletics marketing operations, which includes: renewing and cultivating sponsorships, fulfilling sponsorship obligations, managing in-game promotions, facilitating individual game ticket promotional plans, and assisting with department promotional and advertising plans and assisting with graphic design.

Qualifications:

Must meet the requirement for admission to our University Graduate School (3.0 in last 60 hours and qualifying GRE score). Prior experience in athletics marketing is preferred. Objective
Assist in daily activities of the ESPN Events Department to include preparing weekly press releases, writing promotional announcements, working special events, researching concepts, internet research, contacting vendors, proofreading, compiling and carrying out special projects to include sports celebrity roasts, golf outings, reunions, etc. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, flatbed scanner and the internet is a must.
