Facility & Event Operations Internship

Facility & Event Operations Internship – The Coliseum
The Coliseum at the University of West Georgia is
accepting applications for Fall 2010 internships.
Internships are open to sport management
undergraduate and graduate students interested in
facility and event operations in a college environment.
These positions are unpaid, however, on-campus
housing will be provided.
Basic duties of the internship include, but are not
limited to, customer service, setup and teardown of the
facility for events, crowd control, oversight of events,
maintaining the facility, assisting the Director with the development of marketing and cost
recovery plans, pre-qualification of events, conducting tours of the facility for prospective clients
and the community, and prospecting for events to be held in The Coliseum. Fall interns will also
have the opportunity to be part of game operations for football.
Preference will be given to those with a serious interest in facility and event operations as
evidenced by previous work, practicum and volunteer experience in similar positions. Students
must have excellent communication skills; physical, mental and emotional stamina; and, the
ability to professionally interact with a broad range of constituencies. Teamwork and collegiality
are essential for success in this position. In addition, students must be earning academic credit
for this field experience.
The Coliseum, which opened in January 2009, is a
122,500 square foot facility that is home to the
Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport
Studies and the varsity sports of men’s and women’s
basketball and volleyball. The arena space is
approximately 96,000 square feet and has a maximum
capacity of 7,500 for athletic events. It is the largest
enclosed public assembly facility between Atlanta and
Birmingham along the I-20 corridor. The Coliseum also
hosts concerts, camps, exhibitions, convocations and
graduations. During 2009-2010, UWG opened an
athletic complex that includes a 9,000 seat football
stadium, athletic department operations center, and softball and soccer stadiums.
The University of West Georgia is located in Carrollton and is 45 miles west of downtown
Atlanta off of I-20. UWG is a growing regional comprehensive university enrolling
approximately 11,000 students. West Georgia competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a
member of the Gulf South Conference.

Looking for a team player to generate new and retain existing meetings, conferences, and group gatherings in Champaign County. We need someone who is willing to do what it takes: targeted sales strategies; servicing groups; statistical data; trade shows; and has the communication and organizational skills to put an effective plan into action.
