Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Leisure Studies or related field from a National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) accredited university or related field with 2-3 years progressively responsible experience in programming
2. Valid Illinois drivers license
3. Current CPR and AED certification
4. Proficient in computer word-processing and spreadsheet software applications
5. Good problem-solving, presentation, communication and organizational skills
6. Knowledge of theory and philosophy of recreation
7. Knowledge of principles of leisure program leadership and development
8. Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions
9. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
10. Ability to talk, grasp, reach, kneel, stoop and bend
11. Ability to spend up to 40% of work time reading and/or sitting at computer terminal
12. Ability to spend up to 30% of work time standing and/or walking
13. Ability to spend up to 30% of work time performing physical labor
14. Ability to perform job-related functions within District offices and/or facilities
Summary:
1. Recruit, hire and train staff
2. Evaluate staff
3. Provide ongoing leadership, foresight and motivation to staff
4. Prepare for and conduct staff meetings/trainings as needed
5. Submit payroll information accurately and in a timely manner
6. Adhere to and enforce staff compliance with organizational/departmental/divisional policies and procedures, and the strategic plan
7. Prepare and negotiate contracts for independent contractors
8. Prepare and monitor budget, and control it within guidelines
9. Purchase supplies, materials and equipment
10. Accurately prepare purchase orders, check requests, requisitions and other financial paperwork
11. Monitor cash intake at point of sale programs
12. Establish, monitor and achieve goals and objectives
13. Serve appointed committee assignments
14. Contribute to staff meetings
15. Develop and maintain effective internal and external oral and written communications
16. Represent District positively and ethically to patrons, guests and staff
17. Respond to internal and external phone calls, e-mails, comments and suggestions in a timely manner
18. Prepare written and verbal bullet points, updates and reports as required
19. Act as liaison to affiliates, community groups and governmental units
20. Be at work station, ready for District defined duties at required times
21. Encourage and demonstrate safe work habits through use of established safety program guidelines
22. Maintain CPR and AED certification, and ensure that all staff within supervision does the same
23. Prepare brochure copy
24. Request flyers/posters/ad/press releases
25. Prepare program participant information materials
26. Arrange and secure program space
27. Plan and implement programs on a seasonal basis
28. Supervise programs
29. Evaluate programs
30. Make class cancellation/expansion decisions
31. Seek new program ideas
32. Manage special program registrations
33. Act as liaison for program inclusion services
34. Manage program volunteers
Hours: Various Hours, Evenings and Weekends Required
