Instructor - Northern Iowa

The University of Northern Iowa is seeking an outdoor recreation, outdoor education, and martial arts instructor in the
Division of Leisure, Youth and Human Services in the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services.
This position involves teaching and support of the Division and is a two-year renewable term appointment at the rank
of instructor.
Responsibilities: Serves as an Instructor in the Division of Leisure, Youth and Human Services with teaching
responsibilities at the undergraduate level; advises students at the undergraduate level; recruits, counsels, and
assists with career placement for students; and contributes to professional and public service activities appropriate to
leisure services. Teaching responsibilities include activity courses in the areas of martial arts (karate & judo) and
outdoor recreation activities as well as lecture courses in outdoor recreation and education.
Qualifications: Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) in Physical Education, Leisure Services or related field; at
least five years of successful teaching at the university level; and first aid, CPR-Pro, and Wilderness First Responder
certifications are required. Pre-employment background checks are required.
Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers excellent fringe

The School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services is a unit of the College of Education. The school is
organized in six divisions: Athletic Training; Health Promotion and Education; Physical Education; Leisure, Youth and
Human Services; Graduate Studies; and General Education.

Doctorate) and is comprised of six departments: Curriculum and Instruction; Educational Psychology and
Foundations; Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Post Secondary Education; Special Education; Teaching; and
the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services.
