The Associate Director of Campus Recreation is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and is responsible for providing senior leadership to the office of Campus Recreation, a comprehensive department that includes intramural sports, group exercise classes, personal training services, instructional programs, special events, facility operations, aquatic programs and operations, facility membership, and more. The associate director has oversight and supervisory responsibility of all operations associated with the NSU RecPlex and has direct responsibility for university fitness programs. Specific duties are outlined as follows. Essential Job Function: 1. To assist the Director of Campus Recreation in providing senior leadership to the department. To act on behalf of the Director of Campus Recreation as necessary. 2. To oversee the overall operations of the University Center – RecPlex, an 110,000 square foot indoor recreation and fitness facility open over 114 hours per week, 51 weeks per year. The facility boasts more than 150 pieces of exercise equipment, two indoor basketball courts, three racquetball courts, three multipurpose rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms, two sauna’s, and an outdoor leisure swimming pool. 3. To directly supervise one Assistant Director for Operations and one Graduate Assistant for Operations. 4. To oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and scheduling of the entire RecPlex operational staff, a group of approximately 75 persons to include facility supervisors, service desk attendants, fitness floor attendants, and climbing wall attendants. 5. To oversee and implement a comprehensive personal fitness training program, anticipated to generate more than $80,000 in revenue annually. 6. To oversee and implement a comprehensive group exercise program of more than 40 classes per week targeted towards students and RecPlex members Class formats include yoga, pilates, spinning, set, sculpt, and zumba. 7. To oversee and implement NSU’s Biggest Loser program, a weight-loss challenge in collaboration with the NSU Division of Clinical Operations and Center for Psychological Studies. 8. To develop and implement fitness related programs for special needs populations. 9. To develop and implement fitness related programs at all NSU Student Education Centers to include fitness assessment evaluations, personalized fitness consultations, and the provision of group exercise classes as space permits. 10. To develop and manage fitness center facilities and related staff at the NSU Student Education Centers as they develop. Currently sites are planned for Tampa and Kendal. 11. To establish the University Center as a certification site for fitness instructors; offering in-service and continuing education credits for certified personnel and outside community members. 12. To serve on the university-wide wellness committee. 13. To assist with and present at overall departmental training programs. 14. To be a member of the departmental emergency response team. 15. To assist with marketing efforts for all programs; to collaborate with appropriate department staff to create promotional materials. 16. To recommend and/or select equipment and supplies to be purchased for all programs. 17. To keep abreast of current research in fitness field; obtain and maintain appropriate certifications allowing for program teaching as needed. 18. To collaborate with the Campus Recreation team on special events and projects. 19. To understand, follow and communicate all department and University risk management policies to employees. Assist in the development of the program’s risk management policies. 20. To possess a personal commitment to a fitness lifestyle. 21. To complete other assignments as assigned by the Director of Campus Recreation. NOTES: |
